Earth Day Art Contest
Present Tense, along with Genesee Community College, sponsored an Earth Day Art Contest to celebrate the spirit of Earth Day and the creative work of our community. More than 100 entries were received for this year's contest! The following winners were awarded in each category:
- Literary Arts
Riley Schrader, age 5, Batavia NY for his book Super Riley Saves the Earth
Eliza Vacanti, age 11, Alexander NY for her poem Recipe for the Earth
- Visual Arts
Janice Spiotta of Batavia NY for her quilted wallhanging
Dawn Hough of Elba NY for her presentation of dried flowers and other items using recycled materials
- Multimedia Arts
Julie Miller of Albion NY for her photos and essay, Sheep - The Original Recyclers
Courtney Jones, age 18, of Gainesville NY for her pencil drawing that incorporated recycled items

Vincent Strollo, age 6, of Akron NY for his Recyclesaurus, a dinosaur made from recycled milk cartons
Megan Tenney, age 8, of Batavia NY for her Earth Day poster
